Experiences

Tom with alpacas

Alpacas are beautiful, placid animals and like us all, each has a unique personality. This makes them all so lovable in their own way. Spending time with alpacas is a great way to unwind, laugh and forget the stresses of modern life.

At Arran Alpacas, you will find an alpaca experience best suited to your group - they are a fantastic activity for all!! Our setting in the heart of Arran provides the perfect backdrop.

Experiences

Choose from our trekking or feed & play sessions. Find out more about what each entails - we provide a range of activities so there is something for everyone.

Meet, Greet & WEE Trek (60 mins)

After meeting and learning about alpacas and a short health and safety briefing (approx. 30 mins), you will be assigned an alpaca buddy to feed and take out on a little trek (approx. 25 - 30 mins) around our site with an all-important alpaca selfie stop. This allows you to get up close and personal with our alpaca boys and plenty of time to ask any alpaca questions you may have.

Meet, Greet & BIG Trek (90 mins)

Your BIG trek experience will begin with an informative session (approx. 30 mins) where you will learn some fascinating alpaca facts and we provide a health and safety briefing. You will be assigned your alpaca buddy and be given an opportunity to feed them (this will make you their new best friend)! Then it is time for your 50 minute trek through surrounding fields and our site, showing off wonderful views at a very leisurely pace. This is a fun amble with plenty of time to ask questions, chat and most importantly, taking many photos and selfies with your alpaca buddy.

The BIG trek experience is not suitable for children under 5. We will trust parent's judgement regarding if older kids can manage the full trekking distance. Due to the ground conditions we regret to say that our treks are not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs.

Trekking visitors receive complimentary refreshments in our barn, 'The Ben' where you can browse our Fair-traded and local products. Make the most of your day by bringing a picnic and let the kids enjoy themselves at the play area.

FEED & PLAY Sessions

New for 2021 are our Feed & Play sessions, exclusively for children and families who want to see our animals and spend time on site without trekking. Meet our lambs, alpacas and ducks - there will be an opportunity to feed the alpacas during your session. Bring along a picnic or snacks and the children can enjoy playing at the park and football pitch. Teas and coffees will be available for a small charge and we have indoor barn space too.

Our Ben for teas and coffees after your trek

Arran Alpacas is based at Balmichael Glamping and is sign posted from The String. When you arrive at the car park, walk down the path and enter The Courtyard. You will be greeted in our court yard and head into our alpaca barn or down into their field enclosure (depending on the experience). Here you will meet our lovely alpacas and any other guests - then and your experience will begin!!

If you are early, or fancy a small refreshment after your walk, The Ben next to our 'Hen Hoose' is a converted barn where teas, coffees, drinks and a small selection of goodies are available. All guests will receive a free tea, coffee of juice after their trek. There are two WCs accessible from the Courtyard and every barn is set up with hand sanitiser stations. Guests are asked to wash their hands before and after handling livestock.

Our ducks out for a wander

We encourage all our visitors to make the most of their day and enjoy our idyllic corner of Arran. Bring your picnic and enjoy lunch beside our pond and play area. There is plenty of space to let the kids run off some steam.

You can also say hello to our hens and ducks when you are here and we have fresh eggs available to buy.
